Guidelines & Recommendations for Print-on-Demand Doormats
To ensure the best results for your custom doormats, please review the following best practices and recommendations before submitting your files.
1. File Setup & Sizing
-
Each file must be created to fit and fill the exact size of the doormat on your order.
-
We do not edit, resize, or reposition files, since placement is a creative choice unique to your design.
-
Every doormat size has its own proportions. For example, an 18x30" file will not fit correctly on a 16x24" or 24x36" mat. If you plan to offer multiple sizes, you’ll need to create a separate file for each.
Example workflow (Canva):
-
Create a new document sized to the doormat (e.g., 18x30 inches — switch units from px to in).
-
Design your mat within that space, or resize your existing file to fill it completely.
-
When downloading/exporting, adjust resolution settings as needed to ensure high print quality.
2. Line Thickness & Negative Space
-
Use thicker lines whenever possible. Fine details may not appear as crisp on coir as they do in a digital file.
-
Coir doormats have an uneven, rough surface, which can soften or blur thin elements.
-
When designing with empty (non-printed) areas, leave ample space between design elements to help ensure clarity and clean results.
3. Design Placement Considerations
-
Keep in mind where mats tend to wear down most quickly — such as edges or the bottom section.
-
For longer-lasting visibility, consider placing key elements more centrally.
4. Text Size Guidelines
-
We recommend a minimum text height of 1.5 inches.
-
Smaller text may become difficult to read once printed on the coir surface.
5. Color & Ink Restrictions
-
Currently, we only print in black ink (no color or white).
-
Our ink is a rich, deep black and is printed twice for maximum boldness and clarity.
-
We cannot accept “blackout” designs that cover more than 80% of the mat in ink. If a file exceeds this limit, we’ll contact you before production.
6. Doormat Sizes & Product Info
-
Material: Natural coir fibers with a durable vinyl backing for stability.
-
Thickness: Approximately 0.65 inches.
-
Weight: Standard mats weigh over 5 lbs; 24x36 mats weigh 7+ lbs.
7. Care Instructions
To help your customers get the longest life out of their mats:
-
Place mats in a sheltered location to minimize direct exposure to rain, snow, or extreme weather.
-
Coir may darken if exposed to prolonged moisture. If the mat becomes wet, flip it over to dry fully.
-
Clean by shaking out or sweeping away dirt and debris — avoid saturating with water or using harsh chemicals.
Following these guidelines will help ensure your doormat designs translate beautifully from file to finished product.
